Team India recorded their first-ever Test win at the Edgbaston Test and leveled the five-match series 1-1 after defeating England by 336 runs on the last day of the second Test. Resuming on day five at 72/3, England crumbled under the constant pressure of the Indian seamers. Akash Deep had removed Duckett and Root late on day 4, and he also accounted for Brook and Pope on the final day in a furious spell.
Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar, who took vital wickets with tight, disciplined bowling, provided Akash Deep with good support as he recorded his first fifer and first 10-wicket haul in Tests. Akash Deep spearheaded the onslaught with an incredible 6/99 in the second innings and match figures of 10/187.
For England, Jamie Smith added 88 to his first-innings score of 184 and was supported by Brydon Carse, who made 38 and delayed the inevitable. England was bowled out for 271 runs and India won by 336 runs. This was their maiden win at the Edgbaston ground in Birmingham after 7 losses and one drawn game.
Shubman Gill with his 161 and 269 runs was adjudged the Player of the Match and the next Test of the series will be played at the Lord’s from July 10 onwards.
The cricket fraternity, including Virat Kohli, was ecstatic with India’s historic win at Edgbaston and shared their joy on social media.
