India skipper Shubman Gill and his deputy Rishabh Pant have proved to be England’s biggest nemesis in the ongoing five-match Test series.

Pant slammed twin centuries in the first Test at Headingley last week, while Gill followed up his 147 in the series opener with a staggering 269-run knock in the second Test at Edgbaston.

The pair has also been doing splendid job in keeping the English batters on their toes. Towards the end of second day’s play in Brimingham, Pant and Gill worked together to put pressure right back on Harry Brook, who was trying to waste time.

In order to ensure the 19th over of England's innings, bowled by Ravindra Jadeja, was the last of the day, Brook resorted to classic time-wasting tactics.

After facing the first delivery, Brook went away and adjusted his gloves. He did the same after the third ball of the over, which led to wicketkeeper Pant telling the umpire, "Bowler is ready."

The match official took note of it and asked Brook to take strike instead of wasting time. After facing the next ball, Brook went to the middle of the pitch to tap it. "What is this? Every ball? He's taking time to get ready every ball," Pant reacted with his arms spread.

Jadeja bowled the next ball and Brook defended it. Despite the English batter’s desperate attempts, the left-arm spinner managed to complete the over with one minute still to go before the scheduled close of play, allowing the umpires to squeeze in another over.

As the players were switching ends, Gill was seen complaining to the umpire about Brook's time-wasting tactics. "I can't (physically) push the batter," the umpire replied, trying to make the Indian captain understand that they have already warned Brook.

Joe Root and Harry Brook survived the last over bowled by Prasidh Krishna as England went to stumps at 77/3, trailing India in the first innings by 510 runs.
