India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh, scheduled for August, is now effectively off even though no official announcement has been made.

Preparations for the limited-overs series have been put on hold by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and all signs suggest that the tour has been postponed due to worsening diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

The postponement of the India-Bangladesh white ball series means a slight delay in the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's international appearances in ODI cricket. The two stalwarts have already announced their retirements from the Test and T20 formats.

India were to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in Bangladesh from August 17 to 31. However, sources say that the BCCI has conveyed to BCB that it would be “difficult for them to come in August.”

With no dates fixed yet, a top BCCI official told Cricbuzz, “A decision is expected within a week.” Both boards might release a joint statement soon to clarify the situation.

Initially, the BCB had planned to offer media rights for a two-year period (July 2025–June 2027). But due to the India series postponement, the focus has shifted to the three-match T20I series against Pakistan from July 17 to 25.

“They have informed us that there is no India series. After announcing the tender, they did not provide the ITT. They are selling, for now, only for the Pakistan series,” an Indian broadcaster confirmed.

The Invitation to Tender (ITT), which was supposed to be available between June 15 and July 6, has now been deferred. “The date for the India series hasn't been fixed yet. They (the BCCI) said it's difficult for them to come in August. This is part of FTP,” said the BCB official.

According to the report, the Indian government has advised the BCCI not to proceed with the tour due to ongoing tensions with Bangladesh.

While bilateral ties with Pakistan and Bangladesh remain complicated, India might still participate in multi-nation tournament like the Asia Cup in UAE this September.
