
India captain Shubman Gill accumulated lots of records as he smashed a monumental 269 runs in the first innings of the ongoing second Test against England. This match is being played at the Edgbaston ground in Birmingham, and Gill achieved his highest Test and FC score on day two of the match.
Resuming at 114, Shubman Gill kept grinding out runs and added 203 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the sixth wicket. Jadeja got out for 89 runs. Gill then added 144 runs more with Washington Sundar, who stroked 42 runs.
Shubman Gill then fell for 269 runs with 30 fours and 3 sixes to his name. His score is now the highest by an Indian captain in Tests and the highest by an Indian in Tests in England.
The moment when Shubman Gill slammed his 200, the entire Indian team stood up to applaud in the dressing room. Not only was the senior Indian team present, but the U19 Indian team was also present at the venue and stood up to applaud the India captain.
India coach Gautam Gambhir and support staff also stood to give applause to Shubman Gill, and he received pats on the back when he returned to the pavilion.
