Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings for Mumbai in their recent Ranji Trophy 2024-25 tournament match against Jammu and Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Academy in BKC in Mumbai.
This was Rohit Sharma’s first Ranji Trophy match in a almost a decade, and it was an attempt for the India ODI and Test captain to get out of his poor slump. Rohit has been going through a terrible run of form and was the focus of a lot of attention in the lead-up to the game as soon as he confirmed his presence in the game with a nod.
He walked out to open with his India Test opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal when Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane chose to bat. J&K's opening bowlers took advantage of the early morning cold.
Auqib Nabi allowed a four early in the first over but then tightened his lines; Rohit started with a single through the onside. But Umar Nazir Mir gave him a proper workover, bowling two successive maidens.
He bowled a length delivery on the fifth stump, with a slight movement away from the right-handed batter. Rohit attempted to play his trademark pick-up flick over midwicket but only managed a leading edge to the off side. Paras Dogra sprinted a few yards to his left from midfield to extra cover, yelled loudly and clearly, and pouched it to terminate Rohit's time in the middle.
