Mumbai tasked with chasing a record total against Vidarbha in the quarter-final of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy (SMAT 2024), smashed the opposition bowlers in Alur, Karnataka on December 11, 2024.

Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to chase. Atharva Taide (66) gave a good start to Vidarbha, while Apoorva Wankhede with 51 and Shubham Dubey with 43* in 19 balls finishing strong as they scored 221/6 in 20 overs.

Atharva Ankolekar and Suryansh Shedge picked two wickets each for Mumbai.

In the chase, Prithvi Shaw gave a rousing start to Mumbai, scoring 49 with 4 sixes and 5 fours. His knock included an amazing ramp shot that went for six over the keeper’s head.

However, his partner Ajinkya Rahane stole the show with a 45-ball 84-run knock that consisted of 10 fours and 3 sixes. The duo put on 83 runs in 7 overs for the first wicket, setting the platform for an interesting chase.

Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav fell for single-digit scores, but then Shivam Dube and Suryansh Shedge got together and hammered the Vidarbha bowlers. Dube made 37* with 1 four and 2 sixes.

On the other hand, Suryansh Shedge was in a hurry to finish the match and made 36* in 12 balls with 4 sixes and one four. He hit Mandar Mahale for 3 sixes and one four in the 17th over to take 24 runs off it and bring Mumbai back in the game.

In the end, Mumbai won with 4 balls to go and 6 wickets to spare. They will face Baroda in the first semi-final in Bengaluru on December 13.
