Prithvi Shaw to lead Mumbai in Ranji Trophy; Arjun Tendulkar named in the squad

Mumbai released their 20-member squad for the first two Ranji Trophy matches.

Prithvi Shaw on Wednesday (December 29) has been named captain of Mumbai for their first two matches of the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2021-22. They are placed in the Elite Group C and will play their first match against Maharashtra on January 13.

Mumbai's second match is scheduled against Delhi from January 20 in Kolkata. Apart from Maharashtra and Delhi, Hyderabad, Karnataka, and Uttrakahand are also in their group.

"Prithvi is a brilliant captain and fantabulous opening batsman, what else you need," Mumbai chief selector Salil Ankola told PTI.

The 41-time Ranji champions Mumbai have also included Arjun Tendulkar in the 20-member squad.

Earlier in 2021, Arjun, son of India cricket great Sachin Tendulkar, had played two matches for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-21, but he is yet to make his debut for the senior team in red-ball cricket.

Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Arman Jaffer, and Aakarshit Gomel have made it to the squad, along with experienced wicket-keeper batter Aditya Tare.
