Pakistan players Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammad Hafeez were in focus during the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) clash between Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars. This was due to their recent Twitter exchange which led to a massive uproar amongst Pakistan cricket fans.
It all started with Hafeez lauding Mohammad Rizwan’s performances against South Africa T20I series. "Congratulations @iMRizwanPak on scoring T20. U r a Star shining star Glowing star Wonder how long u need to prove that u r NO1 wicketkeeper/Batsman in pakistan in all formats of the game. Just asking," Hafeez had tweeted.
Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed who has fallen out of contention as the first-choice keeper in the national team didn’t take kindly to the jibe and wrote on Twitter, “Hafeez bhai Sb, whoever has played for Pakistan from Imtiaz Ahmed, Wasim Bari, Tasleem Arif to Saleem Yousuf and from Moin Khan, Rashid Latif to Kamran Akmal and even Rizwan right now has always been number ONE for the country and have been respected accordingly."
He further added that everyone is behind Rizwan and said that a senior player like Hafeez should spread positivity.
However this exchange became more interesting after the match between Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars, Mohammad Hafeez answered with his bat.
Batting first Quetta made 178/6 with Chris Gayle top-scoring with 68 runs. Sarfaraz Ahmed made 33-ball 40 and stitched a great partnership with Chris Gayle. However, Qalandars demolished the Quetta bowling attack as Fakhar Zaman (82*) and Mohammad Hafeez earned them a 9-wicket win with 10 balls left.
Hafeez decimated the Gladiators bowling with a 33-ball 73 with 6 sixes and 5 fours with a strike-rate of 221.21. This led to the Twitterverse flooding the social media platform with memes on the Hafeez-Sarfaraz exchange on Twitter and Hafeez’s knock overshadowing the former Pakistani captain’s.
