Saurashtra's Ranji Trophy-winning captain Jaydev Unadkat has been named captain of the state side for the upcoming the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-21 competition starting January 10, 2021.
India’s 2020-21 domestic season will kick off with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy – a Twenty20 cricket domestic championship in India, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) among all the state teams.
On Friday, December 25, the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) announced the 20-member Saurashtra squad through a media release after its senior selection committee held an online meeting.
Last season, Unadkat captained Saurashtra to their maiden Ranji Trophy triumph and now the SCA is hoping that the seamer can repeat that achievement in the shortest format to lift their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title in the upcoming season since the side hasn’t even reached the final of the tournament.
Meanwhile, SCA has named all the regulars likes Prerak Mankad, Chirag Jani, left-handed batsman Arpit Vasavada, wicket-keeper-batsman Harvik Desai in the squad. The bowling attack led by Unadkat features left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya and slow-left arm orthodox bowler Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.
Noteworthy, Saurashtra is placed in Elite Group D along with Services, Vidarbha, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The league matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be played at Indore.
