PSL 2020: WATCH – Wasim Akram, Karachi Kings players dedicate PSL title win to the late Dean Jones

PSL 2020: WATCH – Wasim Akram, Karachi Kings players dedicate PSL title win to the late Dean Jones

Karachi Kings beat Lahore Qalanders by five wickets to win their first PSL title.

Karachi Kings won the PSL 2020 | PSL/TwitterKarachi Kings (KK) faced Lahore Qalandars (LQ) in the final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 at the National Stadium in Karachi on Tuesday (November 17).

Opting to bat first, Qalandars posted 134/7 in 20 overs. It was a disappointing batting performance as Tamim Iqbal was the top scorer with 38-ball 35.

For Karachi, Umaid Asif (2-18), Waqas Maqsood (2-18) and Arshad Iqbal (2-26) bowled brilliantly and claimed two wickets each.

In reply, Karachi Kings rode on opener Babar Azam’s unbeaten 49-ball 63 to overhaul the target in 18.4 overs with 5 wickets in hand.

After the victory, Karachi coach Wasim Akram dedicated the win to Dean Jones, who passed away due to a heart attack earlier this year.

Jones was appointed as coach of Karachi ahead of the PSL season in March before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of the knockout stage of the tournament.

"Karachi Kings, the champions. This (win) is for Dean Jones and for the fans of Karachi Kings," said Akram in a video posted by International Cricket Council (ICC), where he is surrounded by the Karachi players.

Ahead of the playoffs clash last Saturday (November 21), Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans players had paid tribute to the late Dean Jones by making a 'D' on the field.

Jones was a prominent figure at the PSL over the years. He had guided Islamabad United to two PSL titles as coach.
