Pakistan batsman Asif Ali, who is plying trade for Jamaica Tallawahs in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL), has been found guilty of violating the tournament’s Code of Conduct during a match against Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 25 at Queen’s Park Oval.

“Ali was charged with being in breach of section 2.18 of the Code of Conduct, acting contrary to the spirit of the game. Ali admitted the offence and has been fined 20% of his match fee,” the Caribbean Premier League confirmed in a statement on August 28.

During the eighth over of Tallawahs’ innings, Ali swung his bat in the direction of opposition bowler Keemo Paul when the latter dismissed him for 6-ball 3.

As Paul celebrated his wicket, Ali exchanged a few words with the bowler before nearly hitting his face with the bat. After avoiding getting hit, Paul confronted Ali as the batsman walked towards the dressing room.

Coming to the match, Jamaica registered a comprehensive five-wicket victory over Guyana in a low-scoring affair.

Asked to bat first, Guyana posted 108/9 in 20 overs with Ross Taylor (23 off 22 balls) being the top-scorer in the innings. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the stand-out bowler for Tallawahs, claiming 3 wickets by conceding only 11 runs in his four overs.

In the chase, Jamaica were once reeling at 62/5 but from here on Nkrumah Bonner (30* off 32 balls) and all-rounder Andre Russell (23* off 20 balls) held fort and shared a 51-run stand for the sixth wicket to take the team over the line with two overs to spare.
