BBL 09: Ruthless Sydney Strikers rout listless Brisbane Heat by 8 wickets

Sixers have 15 points in 12 matches, while Heat have 9 points.

Steve O'Keefe | GettyOn January 23, 2020, Brisbane Heat took on Sydney Sixers at the Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba, Brisbane in a crucial encounter for both the teams as the league nears its completion.

Sixers won the bat flip and chose to field first. They bowled with accuracy and kept the Hurricanes’ batsmen quiet throughout the innings. James Pattinson top-scored with 27, while AB de Villiers made 25 as the team crawled to 126/8 in 20 overs. Jackson Bird (2/21), Tom Curran (2/25) and Ben Dwarshuis (2/35) were the main wicket-takers for the Sixers.

Though it was expected that the Hurricanes would do the same to Sixers, their openers Josh Phillippe (52*) and James Vince (51) added 75 runs for the first wicket, as Sixers achieved the target with the loss of two wickets in the 16th over. Steve O’Keefe was named the Player of the Match for his bowling figures of 1/20 in four overs.
