Prithvi Shaw piles on 150 as India A beats New Zealand XI in the second warm-up game

Prithvi Shaw's roaring return after a shoulder injury helped India A pile on a winning 372 on the board.

India A won by 12 runs Prithvi Shaw blasted a 100-ball 150 on return from his shoulder injury to help India A beat New Zealand XI in the second warm-up game of its ongoing tour by 12 runs in Lincoln this Sunday (January 19).

Shaw's participation for the series was in doubt after he hurt his shoulder playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. But the youngster thankfully recovered on time after going through a rehabilitation process at the NCA.

Shaw's magnificent innings went at a strike-rate of 150 and was glint with 22 fours and two sixes as he lit up the Bert Sutcliffe Oval.

Quality of the knock can be gauged by the fact that the next highest score was 58 from all-round Vijay Shankar. Shaw's opening partner Mayank Agarwal (32) and No.7 Krunal Pandya (32) made thirties as India A posted a mammoth total of 372 all out in 49.2 overs.

For the hosts, skipper Daryl Mitchell picked up three wickets in his spell of 3/37 but overall, they found the onslaught from Shaw too hot to handle.

In the run-chase, things became tighter than they were expected to be as opener Jack Boyle (130) scored a brilliant hundred while Finn Allen (87) made a fine half-century and captain Mitchell (41), Dane Cleaver (44) contributed forties.

But eventually, the New Zealand XI fell short by 12 runs because of some good bowling from Ishan Porel (2/59) and Krunal (2/57).

The visitors will now move on to the main part of the tour, starting with the first of the three 50-over games versus New Zealand A on January 22.

Brief scores:

India A 372/10 in 49.2 overs (Prithvi Shaw 150; Daryl Mitchell 3/37) beat New Zealand XI 360/6 in 50 overs (Jack Boyle 130; Krunal Pandya 2/57) by 12 runs
