Ranji Trophy 2020: Prithvi Shaw rushed to NCA for an assessment of his shoulder injury

Prithvi Shaw's availability for the New Zealand tour with India A team is in doubt now as the Mumbai batsman was rushed to National Cricket Academy (NCA) for an assessment of his shoulder injury on Saturday (January 4).

Shaw sustained an injury on his left shoulder while saving an overthrow on the first day of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy clash against Karnataka on Friday (January 3). The 20-year-old neither took the field during the second day nor did he come out to bat and later left for Bengaluru.

Shaw is part of India A squads for the upcoming New Zealand tour where the team will feature in 3 one-day games and 2 four-day matches. The tour will start on January 22 while the team is due to leave on January 10.

"He has been called to NCA. Mumbai Cricket Association got an email from the BCCI. He has left for Bengaluru. He couldn't even lift his hand. He has a tear in the shoulder. That much is known," Ajinkya Naik, Mumbai team's manager, quoted as saying by PTI.

"He was not in a position to bat. How serious is the injury will be known at the NCA," he added.

Prithvi Shaw had just come back to playing for Mumbai after his doping ban ended in November 2019. He played a few sublime knocks in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with a bunch of half-centuries.

The youngster continued to impress with a double century (202) in their first Ranji Trophy fixture against Baroda last month. In the second match against Railways, Shaw managed 12 and 23 while he scored 23 in the first innings of ongoing match versus Karnataka.
