Team India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and teen prodigy Prithvi Shaw are set to turn out for Mumbai in their next crucial encounter against Karnataka starting on January 3.

After suffering an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Railways in their second game, Mumbai has decided to retain the international stars in Rahane and Shaw for their next game against heavyweights Karnataka in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2019-20.

The two were named in the 15-member squad announced by the Mumbai Cricket Association on its website on Monday (December 30) with Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dubey and Shardul Thakur were left out from the squad as the trio would be on the national duty from next month.

Meanwhile, young batsman Sarfaraz Khan has been included in the squad for the Ranji game against the Karnataka side to be played at the Bandra Kurla Complex from January 3.

Shaw and Rahane both played the previous games against Baroda and Railways, while the upcoming Ranji clash could probably be the last game of the young batting sensation in the tournament as he then heads to New Zealand with India A squad.

Noteworthy, following the Karnataka clash, Mumbai will travel to Chennai on January 11 to take on a struggling Tamil Nadu side in the ongoing Ranji tournament.

Mumbai squad:
Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Aditya Tare (Vice Captain) Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan, Shubham Ranjane, Akash Parkar, Siddhesh Lad, Shams Mulani, Vinayak Bhoir, Shashank Attarde, Royston Dias, Tushar Deshpande, Deepak Shetty and Eknath Kerkar.
