New Zealand beat India by 18 runs in a low scoring first Semi-Final 1 at Old Trafford in Manchester and qualified for the Final for the second consecutive time while India's good tournament came to a disappointing end. 

Earlier New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first on a tricky wicket. Opener Martin Guptill once again failed and got out for 1 run off Bumrah bowling. Henry Nicholls and captain Kane Williamson's 68 runs partnership rebuilt the innings but the former got out off Jadeja for 28 runs. Then Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor took the charge and their 65 runs stand set the platform for a good finish. Kane Williamson couldn't convert his innings into a big one and got out for 67 runs. Jimmy Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme too got out cheaply.

Meanwhile, Ross Taylor brought up his fifty. When New Zealand was 211/5 in 46.1 overs rain started and continued for the next five-six hours and play was abandoned for the day and on the next day they resumed their batting from there and scored 28 more runs in remaining overs and thus New Zealand finished on 239/8 in 50 overs. Ross Taylor played 74 runs knock and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 wickets for India.

In reply India had a very poor start and lost Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for 1 run each and reduced to 5/3 in just 4 overs. Dinesh Karthik also perished for 6 runs off 25 balls and at 24/4 India were in deep trouble. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya tried to rebuild the innings but they too couldn't score quick runs and the pressure was creating after every over and resultant they threw their wickets and at 92/6 in 31 overs India was set to lose the match by a big margin. Ravindra Jadeja counter-attacked and smashed all New Zealand bowlers.

His 116 runs partnership with MS Dhoni set the match for a close finish. In the final three overs, India needed 37 runs but Ravindra Jadeja mistimed a shot of Boult bowling and got out after playing a brilliant knock of 77 runs. In the next over MS Dhoni got run out and with that India's hopes also had gone and eventually, they bowled out for 221 runs and lost the match by 18 runs.
