India head coach Ravi Shastri said he isn't surprised at all that opener Rohit Sharma has had an outstanding World Cup in UK this summer.

Rohit, tournament's leading scorer, has struck 647 runs at 92.42, including five centuries, in eight innings. He has been integral to India's successful towards the semi-finals.

"[Rohit] One of the greatest one-day players. Whether he would have scored runs in this competition or not, just seeing his record over the years... 3 double hundreds in ODIs," Ravi told the Cricket World Cup.

"No one has done that. He has been really consistent for India at the top. His form was no surprise. If he chooses a tournament like the World Cup to get that form in, as a coach, I will take it."

Rohit has scored tons against South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. But Ravi picked up the one versus the Proteas in Southampton on a tough surface as his best of the quadrennial event.

"It was a tough wicket. It was two-paced [against South Africa]. So I thought it was a special innings from Rohit because among all the ODI hundreds he has got, I thought that was one of his best," he said.

Another player Ravi heaped effusive praise on is Hardik Pandya, who has been key to India's balance with both bat and ball this World Cup.

"He [Hardik] has come along as a bowler. You're getting full 10 overs out of him. He reads the conditions well. He knows where to use the slow bouncers and off-cutters," he said.

"His reading of the game is good. It's a massive help for the side when you have a batsman as flamboyant as him who can also bowl you the overs."

India topped the points table with seven wins, one loss and a rain-abandoned draw during the league phase. Ravi, especially, talked about the chastening defeat to England in Birmingham and said, "I just thought God was in their dressing room that day. If we play England next, hope he sits in our dressing room. Nothing else to worry about."
