CWC 2019: WATCH- Afghanistan and Pakistan fans clash outside and inside Leeds ground

Afghanistan won the toss and batted first scoring 227/9.

This all started outside the stadium before the start of play today and spilled into the ground as well.

As per the report, the clash at the stands took place around an hour into the match between the fans from both the teams in the Carnegie Pavilion Stand. The security personnel intervened, which led to the fans being evicted.

A statement from West Yorkshire police said: “At 11:55 am today (1055 GMT) police received reports of some trouble outside the ground linked to people trying to get in. Officers attended to disperse the group without any issues and remained on patrol in the area.

We are aware of some scuffles among a minority of fans and are currently working with the venue security team and the local police force, West Yorkshire Police, to ensure there are no further incidents,” an ICC spokesperson was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.

We do not condone this type of behavior, and will take appropriate action against any anti-social behavior that spoils the enjoyment for the majority of fans,” he further added.

Speaking of the match, Afghanistan batted first after winning the toss and chose to bat first. Thanks to identical scores of 42 from Asghar Afghan and Najibullah Zadran, the team put on 227/9 in 50 overs; while Shaheen Afridi picked 4/47 for Pakistan.
