CWC 2019: Sachin Tendulkar wants MS Dhoni to show some intent in his batting

Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has criticized MS Dhoni for being intentless with the bat against Afghanistan in the last match. India won that game closely but found themselves in trouble at one stage when Afghanistan looked good to chase down the target of 225.

India didn't have enough runs on the board. They were targetting 250 but a slow innings by Dhoni which didn't end well cost them. He scored just 28 runs and took 52 balls for it.

Sachin wasn't happy with the intent showed by Dhoni in his 52-ball stay. Speaking to India Today, he said, "MS Dhoni is a senior player and should show positive intent. Afghanistan's bowling is good but you can't score only 119 runs in 34 overs. He did not show any positive intent against Afghanistan.

"MS Dhoni has the ability to hit but yesterday his strike rotation was not good. He faced too many dot balls and this hampered a strong finish for India. The intent could have been much better by the middle order batsmen.

"I believe MS Dhoni needs to up his ante when it comes to striking rotation in the next matches."

Indian team played too slowly in the middle overs which Sachin didn't like. "I felt slightly disappointed, it could have been much better. I was also not happy with the partnership between Kedar and Dhoni, it was very slow. This was one area where we didn't look comfortable at all. There was no positive intent.

"There were more than 2-3 dot balls. After Virat got out in the 38th over and till the 45th over we hadn't scored many runs. There were not enough outings for the middle order batsmen till now and that put pressure on them. But the intent could have been much better by the middle order batsmen," Tendulkar said.

India won the match by 11 runs after the bowlers picked up wickets at the right time. For once the game looked like slipping out of the hand, but the inexperience of Afghanistan cost them in the end.
