West Indies and Bangladesh are facing each other in the 23rd match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in Taunton on Monday (June 17).

Sent into bat first, West Indies lost Chris Gayle for a 13-ball duck but the pair of Evin Lewis and Shai Hope bailed the team out of trouble by adding 116 runs for the second wicket. Shakib Al Hasan broke the partnership by removing the dangerous looking Lewis for 70 off 67 balls (6 fours and 2 sixes). The Bangladeshi all-rounder also got rid of Nicholas Pooran (25) cheaply to reduce West Indies to 159/3.

Afterwards, Hope along with Shimron Hetmyer stitched 83 runs to put the Caribbean team in a strong position. Hetmyer was looking set for a big one before Mustafizur Rahman cut short his innings on 50 off just 26 deliveries. In the same over, Mustafizur also dismissed power hitter Andre Russell for a silver duck.

Nonetheless, Hope continued to hold the one end for his team. The classy right-hander didn’t take any risk and forged a couple of crucial little partnerships with skipper Jason Holder (33 off 15 balls) and Darren Bravo.

Shai Hope (96 off 121 balls) was eventually dismissed in the last delivery of the 47th over by Mustafizur. In the death overs, it was Bravo’s cameo (19 off 15 balls) that helped the West Indies to pile up 321/8 in 50 overs.

Brief Scores:

West Indies – 321/8 in 50 overs (Shai Hope 96; Evin Lewis 70) vs Bangladesh (Mustafizur Rahman 3/59); Mohammad Saifuddin 3/72)
