The cricket matches of India and Pakistan always come with a lot of buzz and the build-up to their World Cup 2019 clash in Manchester was no different.
Such was the excitement that legendary captain and the current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, couldn’t restrain himself from commenting on this marquee encounter. In a series of tweet on Sunday (June 16), Imran advised the current Pakistani skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed to bat first if he wins the toss. Moreover, the 1992 World Cup winning captain suggested Pakistan to field specialist batsmen and bowlers and not rely on ‘Raillu Kattas’, who fails to stand up when the pressure is on.
Raillu Kattas translates to a “wandering buffalo calf”, which in sporting terminology refers to the bits and pieces cricketers who don’t add any extra value to his team.
“In order ro have a winning offensive strategy Sarfaraz must go in with specialist batsmen and bowlers because "Raillu Kattas" rarely perform under pressure - especially the intense kind that will be generated today. 2. Unless pitch is damp, Sarfaraz must win the toss & bat,” Imran wrote in one of his tweets.
However, Sarfaraz didn’t follow the advice of cricketer-turned-politician as he elected to field first after winning the toss. Moreover, Pakistan also picked Imad Wasim in the playing XI, who is a part-time spinner and bats lower down the order.
Sarfaraz’s decision also backfired as Rohit Sharma pulverized the Pakistani bowling attack to notched up his 24th ODI ton. The Indian vice-captain put up 136 runs for the first wicket with KL Rahul. After Rahul’s dismissal on 57, Rohit added 98 runs for the second with Virat Kohli. Sharma was eventually dismissed by Hassan Ali for a mesmerizing 140 off 113 balls (14 fours and 3 sixes).
