Fitness continues to be a cause of concern for Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir as he might be ruled out from his team’s World Cup opener against the West Indies.
As per a report published in Geo News, Amir is yet to regain his full fitness and has informed coach Mickey Arthur about the same. The left-arm pacer has reportedly asked for more time to rest before gearing up for the remaining matches in the quadrennial event.
The report also claimed that the Pakistan team management has decided not to field him during Friday’s clash with the Caribbean side at Trent Bridge.
It is pertinent to mention here that Amir has been struggling with fitness ever since he arrived in England last month. The 27-year-old didn’t feature in the three-math ODI series against England due to viral infection.
Mohammad Amir was not named in Pakistan’s preliminary squad for the 2019 World Cup due to poor form. But the lackluster showing of the bowlers in the ODIs against England prompted the selectors to go back to Amir, who replaced all-rounder Faheem Ashraf in the final squad announced on May 20.
It will be interesting to see whether Amir completely recovers before Pakistan’s second game in the World Cup against hosts England on June 3 at Trent Bridge.
