The ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be a unique one given that it returns to England and Wales after a gap of 20 years and goes back to the format of round-robin matches ala the 1992 edition. However, in a new twist, the ICC has also declared that teams will have to don separate jerseys for home and away matches in this edition.
"For televised ICC events all participating teams will be required to provide for two different colored kits, except for the host country who has a preference in the choice of color and may, if it chooses to do so, provide only one colored kit to be worn in all matches throughout the event. In advance of the event the teams will be notified which colored kit will be worn in each match,” ICC said in a release.
This was done by the governing body of cricket to avoid confusion during the World Cup in England. This means Bangladesh, Pakistan and South Africa having green colored kits primarily and will have to wear different colored kits in their away matches while facing one another.
Similarly, India, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan too will have to wear different colored jerseys in their away matches while facing each other. Only hosts England, Australia, West Indies, and New Zealand are exempt to this ruling given their unique colored jerseys.
Meanwhile, four of the five teams in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka have already revealed their home and away kits. India, on the other hand, is also expected to unveil their away jersey soon.
Meanwhile, here are the home and away kits of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
