Veteran England paceman Stuart Broad believes that the Lions have a once in a lifetime opportunity to make this a summer to remember by winning both the 2019 World Cup and Ashes 2019 titles at home.
England and Wales are all set to host the two biggest events—ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and Ashes 2019 against Australia in its international calendar for the first time since the inaugural World Cup in 1975. And Broad urged his countrymen to do something unforgettable this home season to make the "summer of their generation" remarkable to inspire the next generation and raise their game.
Broad, the four-time Ashes-winner, said on Thursday, 9th May, “It's awesome, the summer of our generation. What an opportunity for the game to grow and inspire. I look back to when I was a kid, you get inspired by big series like World Cups and the Ashes. That's the added pressure on us as players. We can make this a summer to remember by winning trophies.”
England have yet to win a World Cup title, having won only 2010 World T20 at the ICC events, but Eoin Morgan's side could make history this time, given their excellent form in the One Day cricket and Broad also believes that the hosts have their best ever chance to win their maiden World title at home.
He also said that England has got the best ever CWC squad in Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, and Moeen Ali for the upcoming ICC event which makes their chances, even more, stronger, to win the World title at home.
Broad signed off by saying, “It's the men's best ever chance to win a 50-over World Cup. I've never seen an (England) ODI team go in with the quality this one has got, particularly in the batting, the top seven.”
