The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) received harsh criticism when videos circulated on social media showing the washrooms in the Gaddafi Stadium leaking during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 competition.
The incident occurred during the Australia-Afghanistan match in Lahore, which was abandoned due to rain. After only 30 minutes of rain, puddles of water developed on the playing field at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, forcing the game to be called off.
After the match was canceled due to rain, spectators attacked the host country, Pakistan, for the quality of their recently remodeled stadiums. Rain started falling at 8 p.m. IST on Friday, making it difficult for the players to play.
According to a PTI report, the board spent over 18 billion Pakistani rupees to improve stadium facilities in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, three of the tournament's venues.
The PCB's problems appear to be getting worse, as supporters have released recordings showing water coming through the roofs of restrooms at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
One such video, uploaded by Pakistan's Tribune news portal, shows water leaking through the ceiling of the stadium's washrooms.
In the videos circulating on social media, waterlogging is also visible in the stands meant for spectators.
The most recent film has sparked worries about the quality of hastily completed renovation work in Pakistan.
According to estimates, the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore was restored in just 117 days after Pakistan failed many deadlines. However, leaking roofing in the stadium washrooms indicates that the renovation work did not reach high standards.
