Team India's participation in the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan remains uncertain, with discussions ongoing about whether skipper Rohit Sharma will travel across the border for official media activities.
The marquee event, slated to get underway on February 19 in Karachi, will see India play their matches in Dubai after citing security concerns as the reason for refusing to travel to Pakistan.
"Whether Rohit Sharma travels to Pakistan for ICC media engagements is something that's still not decided," said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, addressing the speculation surrounding Rohit’s involvement in the pre-tournament presser and photo shoots.
This decision is still being evaluated by the BCCI, as the Men in Blue have not visited Pakistan for any bilateral or multi-nation event since 2008.
Saikia also addressed rumours about the BCCI refusing to print Pakistan’s name on the Indian cricket team’s jerseys for the Champions Trophy.
The BCCI secretary confirmed that India will fully adhere to the dress code set by the International Cricket Council for the showpiece tournament.
"BCCI will follow every uniform-related ICC rule during Champions Trophy," Saikia told PTI, putting to rest any speculation about India’s objections to the official logo featuring Pakistan’s name.
"Whatever the other teams will do regarding the logo and dress code, we are going to follow in true letter and spirit," he added.
Earlier in the day, an ICC official said that all teams are bound by the ICC regulations to sport the tournament’s official logo on their jerseys. The logo will also include the name of the host nation.
“It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule,” an ICC source was quoted as saying by Pakistan’s A Sports.
The report further stated that any team failing to abide by the ICC protocols will have to face “strict” action.
India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
