Former India cricketer and father of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, Yograj Singh is very happy with the Indian squad that was announced by the BCCI selection committee for the England ODIs and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Earlier on Saturday, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma attended a press conference to declare the 15-man roster for the Champions Trophy 2025 and the ODI series against England.
Yograj Singh stated that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should not be pulled from the team due to their poor performance. He also stated that if Rohit and Rohit are dropped, the squad will come apart. He also praised BCCI for the team selection.
"I really want to congratulate BCCI and selectors who supported the team... I have always said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should not be dropped, if you drop them then your team will fall apart... We may have lost in Australia but we should not forget that we have beaten them in two matches,” Yograj Singh told ANI.
During a news conference on Saturday, top selector Ajit Agarkar and Indian captain Rohit Sharma presented the 15-member roster. Yograj expressed his happiness with the consistency shown in the picks, despite his initial concerns over the omission of crucial players.
“I was worried that 5-6 people should not be dropped, Shubman or Virat should not be dropped, so I was supporting them... I think this is the best thing that has happened, I want to congratulate the board and think tank, selectors, I appreciate these people...," he added.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be hosted by Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. India after refusing to travel to Pakistan, will play its matches in Dubai.
The eight-team tournament will include 15 50-over matches staged across Pakistan and in Dubai. The tournament's marquee match, between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, will take place on February 23 in Dubai. India will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
India's final league encounter will be against New Zealand on March 2.
