India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was left fuming following a contentious DRS decision on Day 5 of the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The southpaw was looking set for his second hundred of the series, but his gritty knock of 84 came to an end as he was adjudged caught behind off the bowling of Pat Cummins.

During the 71st over of India's second innings, Jaiswal attempted to pull a short delivery from Cummins but the ball went behind and was caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

While the umpire did not think that there was any edge involved, the Australian players were quite confident as they took a review.

There was no spike on the Real-Time Snickometer (RTS) when the ball came in contact with Jaiswal’s bat. However, the TV umpire was sure that there was clear deviation in the path of the ball due to a contact with the bottom glove.

As a result, the third umpire overturned the decision, resulting in Jaiswal engaging in a heated argument with the on-field officials before leaving the field.

Five overs later, Australia reviewed for a bat-pad against Akash Deep, who was declared out by the third umpire as there was a spike on the RTS.

While Akash was clearly out, but the TV umpire Sharfuddoula’s call to overlook the RTS in Jaiswal’s dismissal has been questioned by the Indian fans.

Akash Deep’s dismissal reduced India to 150/8. Australia claimed the remaining two wickets quickly to bowl out the tourists for 155, winning the penultimate Test by 184 runs to claim a 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
