India skipper Rohit Sharma suffered an injury scare just days before the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
According to a report in the Times of India, Rohit was hit on his left knee while facing throwdown specialist Daya during India’s practice session on Sunday (December 22).
Despite the discomfort, Rohit continued to bat for a bit but the pain eventually forced him to seek medical attention.
“The Indian captain removed his gear, settled into a chair, and the physio got the ice pack out. There was pain visible on the right-hander’s face when the pack was put on, and the physio later placed the left leg on a chair to get Rohit into a comfortable position," the report read.
“The blow didn’t look that serious, and the physio is taking precautions to ensure swelling, if any, subsides. There is still some time left for the Boxing Day Test to begin, and Rohit would hope the pain goes away," it added.
While Rohit Sharma missed the series opener at Perth due to the birth of his second child, he returned with scores of 3, 6 and 10 in the next two Tests against Australin in Adelaide and Brisbane respectively.
With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy currently tied at 1-1, the Indian fans would be hoping for Rohit to step up in the fourth and penultimate Test, starting on December 26 at the iconic MCG.
