Before the start of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, there was a lot of talk about Cheteshwar Pujara not being named in the Indian squad for the five-match series.
During the 2018-19 series Down Under, which India won 2-1, Pujara amassed 521 runs in four Tests. He aggregated 271 runs and took body blows to script India’s another series win on Australian soil in 2020-21.
Pujara, who has fallen out of favour with the national selectors lately, is currently part of the broadcasting team for the Test series between India and Australia.
During a chat with Harbhajan Singh and Jatin Sapru on Star Sports, Pujara on Saturday (December 14) recalled getting sledged by former Australia opener David Warner when he brought drinks to the field for his teammates during the 2014-15 series.
“During the 2014/15 tour, I wasn't in the playing XI. I was carrying the drinks, he came to me and said, ‘you look good carrying drinks’,” Pujara revealed.
“Since then, we kept sledging. And every time, I would do this (shows the off-spin sign) because Ashwin would dismiss him the most. And I told every bowler to just gesture the off-spin bowling at him, because it plays psychological trick on him,” he added.
“I used to sledge him at short-leg too. I won't elaborate more on that! But whenever Warner used to come to India, I kept reminding him that he would get dismissed to Ashwin the most,” he continued.
Only 13.2 overs were possible due to rain on Day 1 of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at the Gabba. India, after winning the toss, invited the hosts to bat under overcast conditions. However, Australia’s opening duo of Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney did well to not lose a wicket, adding 28 runs to the board.
