India captain Rohit Sharma returned to the team as they took on the PM XI in a limited-overs match in Canberra ahead of the second BGT 2024 Test in Adelaide. India was supposed to play a 2-day pink ball game against the PM’s XI at the Manuka Oval.
However, rains washed out the first day’s play on November 30, and on the second day, December 1, the two sides agreed on a 550-overs-per-sidepink ball game as India wanted to get some practice with the ball before the second Test.
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field first. Sam Konstas starred with the bat for PM XI, scoring 107 in 97 balls with 14 fours and 1 six. He got support from Jack Clayton, who made 40 runs and added 109 runs with Konstas for the 4th wicket.
The PM’s XI kept picking wickets at regular intervals thanks to brilliant bowling by Harshit Rana. In the end, they were bowled out for 240 runs in 43.2 overs. Hanno Jacobs provided some relief down the order with 61 runs including 4 fours and 2 sixes to his name. Harshit Rana starred with the ball, taking 4/44, while Akash Deep took two wickets.
A funny incident involving Rohit Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan happened during PM XI innings, leaving everyone in splits. Sarfaraz, who was filling in for Rishabh Pant as a substitute wicketkeeper, botched a routine catch behind the stumps, resulting in a funny moment with Rohit.
The incident occurred in the 23rd over of the innings, when Harshit Rana bowled a short delivery to Oliver Davies, who had just arrived at the crease following Jack Clayton's departure.
The ball zipped past Davies but was mishandled by Sarfaraz, who failed to collect it cleanly. As Sarfaraz proceeded to fetch it from the ground, Rohit couldn't help but give his teammate a lighthearted punch in the back. The gentle tap appeared to relieve the tension, and both players smiled.
Ahead of the next delivery, Rohit also adjusted Sarfaraz's position, all while laughing at the incident.
