Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mitchell Starc | ScreengrabYashasvi Jaiswal took a brutal dig at Mitchell Starc’s pace on Day 2 of the first Test between India and Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The sledging incident unfolded during the 19th over of India’s second innings.

Starc bowled a full-length delivery just outside off stump, tempting Jaiswal to drive on the up. The left-handed opener went for the extravagant shot but the ball held its line just enough to beat his outside edge, prompting the left-arm quick to stare at the Indian batter.

However, Jaiswal came up with a savage response on the very next ball. The southpaw stood tall and played a confident shot, sending a clear message that he wouldn’t be intimidated.

The young batter then sledged the Aussie pacer by saying, "You are coming too slow."

Here’s the video:

Earlier in the day, Mitchell Starc was involved in an on-field banter with Harshit Rana as the Australian veteran playfully reminded the Indian debutant that he bowls faster than him.

The exchange came during a fiery spell from Rana, who had Starc ducking to evade a barrage of short-pitched deliveries.

"Harshit, I bowl faster than you. I've got a long memory," stump microphone caught Starc as saying.

Resuming form 67/7, Australia’s first innings folded for 104 in the first session on Day 2. While stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah returned with a five-wicket haul (5-30), Harshit Rana (3-48) and Mohammed Siraj (2-20) shared the remaining five scalps between them as India gained a handy lead of 46 runs.

In the second innings, the tourists got off to a strong start. The duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal (52*) and KL Rahul (42*) had put on 104* runs for the opening wicket after 41 overs, extending India’s lead to 150 runs.
