Team India are in the driver’s seat of the ongoing first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia at the Optus Stadium, Perth.

Resuming form 67/7, Australia’s first innings folded for 104 in the first session on Day 2. While stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah returned with a five-wicket haul (5-30), Harshit Rana (3-48) and Mohammed Siraj (2-20) shared the remaining five scalps between them as India gained a handy lead of 46 runs.

At one point, the visitors had reduced the hosts to 79/9. However, the duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood frustrated the Indian bowlers with a dogged last-wicket stand of 25 from 110 deliveries, helping the Aussies to keep the deficit below 50 runs.

Harshit broke the partnership by dismissing Starc for 26 off 112 balls. Not only the Indian camp, but Anushka Sharma and Sanjana Ganesan also heaved a sigh of relief after final wicket fell.

The cameras caught the reaction of Virat Kohli and Bumrah's wife, who were in stands cheering for the Indian team.

In the second innings, the tourists got off to a strong start. The duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal (41*) and KL Rahul (32*) had put on 81* runs for the opening wicket after 24 overs, extending India’s lead to 127 runs.
