Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins has reacted to David Warner's retirement reverse call for the upcoming Test series against India.

Cummins revealed that he had a word with Warner earlier and wished him all the very best for his Big Bash League stint with Sydney Thunder. He is also looking forward to the former opener’s comments as an expert or broadcaster.

Recently, Warner expressed his readiness to participate in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, stating that he is available to represent the national team if needed.

The southpaw also mentioned that he is prepared to participate in the Sheffield Shield, Australia's premier domestic red-ball competition, to get some match practice under his belt and prove his fitness for the blockbuster five-match series.

"Dave, we are very interested. We are taking it very seriously, and we'll be in touch, mate. I did speak to Dave a couple of days ago, and he was like," What do you think", and I am like, yeah! Good luck with the Thunder this year. And I will look forward to your comments on Fox," Cummins said while speaking on The Grade Cricketer podcast.

The captain also reacted to the reports of either Travis Head or Mitchell Marsh being considered for the opening slot alongside Usman Khawaja.

"That is funny. I think I said it the other day that Trav Head and Mitchell Marsh. I'd wake up in the papers. Was, you know, Trav Head firming as favourite to open the batting. And I am like-that's the first time I've ever heard of that. It is just hilarious," he added.

All-rounder Cameron Green’s back injury has forced Australia to alter their batting order for the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with veteran campaigner Steve Smith set to return to N. 4 position after a short stint as an opener.

However, the Aussies are currently in a pickle with figuring out who would open the batting along with Usman Khawaja as the Test series nears.

The names of Cameron Bancroft, Sam Konstas, Marcus Harris and even Josh Inglis are floating around as possible partners.

Amidst all this, David Warner has made himself available despite retiring from international cricket earlier this year.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is slated to get underway on November 22 in Perth and the action will then shift to Adelaide (December 6-10), where both teams will face each other in a Day-Night Test. The last three Tests are set to take place in Brisbane (December 14-18), Melbourne (December 26-30), and Sydney (January 3-7).
