BAN v IND 2022: WATCH - “Look beyond those numbers,” Dravid opens up on dealing with Kohli’s rough patch as coach

Virat Kohli has started scoring runs consistently in the last few months.

However, the former skipper silenced his critics by finishing the six-team competition as the second highest run-getter with 276 runs to his name from five innings.

During the tournament, Kohli also ended his much-talked-about century drought as he slammed 122* off 61 balls in India’s last Super-4 clash against Afghanistan.

After regaining his form in the Asia Cup, Kohli had a great time in the T20 World Cup 2022 Down Under. In 6 games, the right-hander aggregated 296 runs at a staggering average of 98.66 and at a decent strike rate of 136.40. He hit four half-centuries in the tournament, including a memorable 53-ball 82* against Pakistan in India's opening fixture.

Virat Kohli is currently with the Indian team on the tour of Bangladesh, where he slammed his much-awaited 44th ODI ton in the third and final 50-over game at Chattogram last week.

Reflecting on Kohli’s rough patch, India head coach Rahul Dravid told SonyLiv, "It was not easy for him since the standards that he has set for himself."

"It has been a fantastic to watch Virat Kohli train and prepare over the last one and a half years," he further added.

When asked how he dealt with Kohli's poor form as a coach, Dravid pointed out that the veteran batter had not played poorly at the time when half-centuries and centuries were not coming.

"As coaches it is our job to look beyond those numbers and see that he had batted really well in that period of time," the India coach remarked.

In the ongoing Test against Bangladesh at Chattogram, Kohli scored only 1 run in the first innings. His next challenge is to end the century drought in the longest format. He hasn’t scored a Test ton since November 2019.
