BAN v IND 2022: Shakib Al Hasan taken to hospital for scans a day before opening Test

The two-match Test series will get underway on December 14 in Chattogram.

Shakib Al Hasan | GettyBangladesh have suffered an injury scare ahead of the Test series against India as ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been taken to the hospital for scans to determine the gravity of his back injury.

The two-match Test series is all set to get underway at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday (December 14).

During the second ODI against India, Shakib suffered a blow on his back after being hit by a vicious bouncer from Umran Malik. Before the opening Test, he didn’t attend any training sessions as a precautionary measure.

However, it has also been reported that the Bangladesh Test skipper doesn’t have anything to worry about and needs enough rest before the start of the Test series.

“Shakib's back pain was mainly caused by Umran Malik's delivery in the second ODI, that's why the all-rounder went to a hospital in Chattogram to get X-ray done in the morning. Shakib has not done anything - batting, bowling, or fielding yesterday, and even today. He spends time resting from being on the practice field. But there is no fear, Shakib will play the Chattogram Test,” a source was quoted as saying to BDcrictime.

Shakib Al Hasan is a key player for Bangladesh across all formats over the years. He played an instrumental role in Bangladesh’s 2-1 ODI series win over India.

While the 35-year-old scored 80 runs in three ODIs, he returned with nine scalps, including a five-wicket haul in the series opener in Dhaka.
