Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg lashed out at Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma for blaming injuries for their recent poor performance in limited-overs cricket.
Team India, hit by a number of injuries for the past few months, had lost pacer Jasprit Bumrah and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja before the T20 World Cup 2022 due to injuries.
And most recently, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, and Rohit became the latest ones to suffer injuries. After India lost the ODI series in Bangladesh, Rohit expressed disappointment over the increasing number of injuries in the team.
He was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo: “There are definitely a few injury concerns. We need to try and get to the bottom of it. It is something we have to look at. We have to sit with our team back home at the NCA as well and try and monitor their workload.”
Reacting to the Indian skipper’s statement, the former Australian cricketer said that he couldn't blame the system, but instead they should look at how they prepare for international assignments.
Brad Hogg said in a video posted on his Instagram handle: “If you want the gold, you want the riches, you’ve got to do the dirty work, have the discipline. That’s watching what you eat and the exercises that you do and the amount of work you’ve got to do to prepare for the next tournament.”
He added, “For example - If you are playing in the T20 tournament and you know that you have got a Test match coming up two weeks later, you’ve got to bowl more overs at training to make sure your workloads are up. Don’t blame the system, look at yourself.”
