Indian team not only lost the first ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh by a meager one-wicket margin but were also fined for slow over-rate offense.
It has been revealed that Team India has been fined 80 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Bangladesh despite time allowances being taken into consideration in the first ODI in Mirpur, Dhaka on Sunday.
India captain Rohit Sharma, who pleaded guilty to the offense, accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
"Match referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed the sanction after India were ruled to be four overs short of the target," ICC said in a media statement.
“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined 20 percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” the statement further read.
On-field umpires Michael Gough and Tanvir Ahmed, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel leveled the charge.
Mehidy Hasan with 38*, Litton Das with 41, Shakib Al Hasan with 5/36, and Ebadot Hossain with four wickets were stars of Bangladesh’s historic win over India. The second ODI will also be played in Dhaka on Wednesday.
