Team India stood firm when it came to interacting with the Pakistani team or officials, as they refused to collect their awards and the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from ACC chief and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. This came after India defeated Pakistan in the final in Dubai by 5 wickets.
India won the toss in the crucial final against Pakistan, and Suryakumar Yadav elected to field first. Sahibzada Farhan maintained his fine form, scoring 57 off 36 balls, including five fours and three sixes, and sharing 84 runs for the first wicket with Fakhar Zaman, who scored 46.
Saim Ayub scored 14, but Indian spinners swung the game as Pakistan fell from 113/1 to 146 all out. Kuldeep Yadav scored 4/30, including three wickets in one over. Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Axar Patel chose two apiece.
India's chase began poorly, with Abhishek Sharma (5), Suryakumar Yadav (1), and Shubman Gill (12) falling early, leaving them at 20/3. Sanju Samson (24) and Tilak Varma combined for a 57-run stand. Tilak then added 60 runs with Shivam Dube, who scored 33 off 22 balls, including two fours and two sixes. His huge six off Haris Rauf in the 18th over swung the momentum in India's favor.
Tilak Varma led the chase with an undefeated 69 from 53 balls, including three fours and four sixes, while Rinku Singh scored the winning boundary. India defeated Pakistan by five wickets to win the Asia Cup 2025. Faheem Ashraf scored 3/29 for Pakistan.
Tilak Varma won the Player of the Match award in the final, and Abhishek Sharma was given the Player of the Tournament award. Kuldeep Yadav was given the MVP of the tournament award for his 17 wickets.
While the Pakistani team collected its runner-up medal from Aminul Islam, the Bangladesh representative, Team India refused to collect its medals and the Asia Cup trophy from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief and current PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi.
Former New Zealand cricketer-turned-commentator Simon Doull confirmed the same as he conducted the presentation ceremony.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation," informed Simon Doull.
There was no conversation with India captain Suryakumar Yadav, nor did Mohsin Naqvi hand over the trophy to him and the Indian players. Instead, Mohsin Naqvi took the Asia Cup trophy with him and left the stadium, so that the Indian team didn’t get photographed with the silverware and the Men in Blue celebrated without the trophy.
