Suryakumar Yadav and Haris Rauf have been fined 30% match fee by the ICC for their remarks and on-field conduct during the India versus Pakistan matches in the ongoing Asia Cup, TOI reported.
According to the report, Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan escaped the fine and was let go with just a warning for his gun-shot celebration after reaching a half-century in the Super 4 match last Sunday (September 21).
It is learnt that the ICC carried out disciplinary hearings on Thursday and Friday with match referees overseeing proceedings. From both parties, team managers also attended the meetings.
The tension from both sides refused to die down in the continental event, and it all started with the PCB accusing match referee Andy Pycroft for violating the code of conduct at the toss when Suryakumar and Salman Agha refrained from shaking hands and acknowledging each other in the group-stage match on September 14.
After multiple emails from PCB, the apex body gave a verdict that Pycroft did no wrong and gave him a clean chit. The Pakistan board shot another email, calling for action against India captain Suryakumar’s post-match remarks.
The mail was received on September 17 and while the ICC was looking into the matter, the BCCI wrote an email demanding action against Rauf and Farhan for their provocative gestures.
After an in-depth probe, Rauf’s gestures while fielding near the boundary ropes, including mocking Indian fans about baseless falling planes were deemed “aggressive and unacceptable,” prompting the 30% fine.
Farhan, on the other hand, was issued only a warning for his gun-shot act with no financial repercussions.
As for Suryakumar, he was penalized for standing in solidarity with the Pahalgam terror victims and Indian Army. However, multiple reports are claiming that the Indian board has already appealed against the verdict.
The arch-rivals will now square off in the Asia Cup 2025 Final, scheduled for September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
