Former English opening batsman Marcus Trescothick will be joining the England coaching set-up for the first two Tests of the upcoming Ashes 2019 starting from 1st August in Birmingham.
England's batsmen will hone their skill under Trescothick during their training days ahead of the Edgbaston and Lord's Tests – both at practice sessions and at the team hotel.
Jonathan Trott has also donned a similar role with the national side ahead of the one-off Test against Ireland to be played at Lord’s from 24th July.
However, these appointments do not mean that either Trescothick - or Trott - are about to succeed Mark Ramprakash as England team's batting coach.
While the England Cricket Board are yet to find a successor to Ramprakash, who left the job a couple of months ago, they are using the likes of Trott and Trescothick to help ease the burden on England’s chief batting coach Graham Thorpe.
The 43-year-old Trescothick, who has recently announced his retirement from first-class cricket, has 52 first-class centuries to his credit with Somerset since 1993, as well as, he has the highest List-A runs (7374) and holds the record for the most first-class catches (445) for the county side.
Trescothick, who was part of Michael Vaughan-led Ashes-winning squad in 2005, had a fine international career with England, as the left-hander has more than 5800 runs at an average of 43.79 in 76 Test matches, while he also scored 4335 runs in one-day International cricket at an average of 37.37 for the team.
