England ended their long wait of being termed as the ‘World Champions’ after clinching the Final at Lord’s. England's Test Captain Joe Root believes that this title win will boost their confidence for the upcoming Ashes series.

After a successful World Cup campaign, the English players will be ready to tame the Kangaroos as the Ashes series begins from August 1 in England. The players will have the required boost in confidence going into a different format of the game against a strong opposition.

Joe Root said to the reporters, “It’s what we set out to do two or three years ago and we’re halfway there. This will give the guys confidence and we’ve talked about taking that forward into a series like that.

England won the semi-finals against Australia in quite an emphatic manner and the Aussies will be waiting to avenge the defeat. They will surely be looking forward to give England a tough Test series and not falter against the new World Champions.

Root built up the Ashes saying, “The way we played against Australia in that semi-final... the guys who were involved relished it and will want a bit more: the feeling of euphoria we felt at that ground. To potentially be able to experience all that again is very exciting. Ashes cricket always has a different edge to it so that in itself will get everyone going.

The atmosphere, the way it builds up and the way the guys get excited about it, it’s like no other series in Test cricket.

The Ashes series will begin from with the first Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
