India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav didn’t hold back as he took a dig at the Asia Cup trophy row after beating Australia in the five-match series.

Just like the series opener in Canberra, inclement weather played spoilsport in the finale at Gabba on Saturday (November 8). Only three of the five T20Is were completed, and the visitors emerged victorious in two games to clinch the series 2-1.

During the post-match press conference, Suryakumar was asked how it felt to have his hands on the trophy and the skipper replied by saying that it felt great to finally touch the silverware — a playful dig at the Asia Cup final controversy.

Notably, India won the Asia Cup 2025 by defeating Pakistan in the title clash played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 28.

However, the Men in Blue were denied the trophy after they refused to collect it from ACC and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also a minister in Pakistan’s government and posted anti-India sentiments on social media throughout the tournament.

“It feels great to finally get to touch the trophy. Felt it in my hands, when I was handed over the trophy for the series victory. A few days back another trophy arrived in India our women’s team has won the World Cup. That trophy has also arrived back home. It feels great and getting to touching this trophy as well feels good,” Suryakumar told reporters.

After Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, he left the stadium with the trophy and has not returned it back to India so far.

The Asia Cup trophy has been lying at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, with the staff there instructed by the boss to not move it without his permission.

Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia on Saturday stated that the 'ice was broken' with the PCB when the two cricket bodies discussed the matter 'informally' at the recent ICC meeting.

"I was a part of both the informal and formal meetings of the ICC. PCB chairperson Mohsin Naqvi was also present. During the course of a formal meeting, it was not on the agenda, but the ICC facilitated a meeting between me and the PCB chief separately in the presence of a senior ICC office-bearer and another senior official.

"It was really good to start the process of negotiation. Both sides cordially participated in the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the ICC board meeting," Saikia told PTI.
