The second one-day international between Australia and India will be played on October 23, 2025, at the Adelaide Oval. Australia won the toss and decided to field first.
India struggled at the top once more, as Virat Kohli (0) and Shubman Gill (9) fell early. However, experienced Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer added 118 runs for the third wicket to calm the ship and set India on the route to a decent total.
Rohit Sharma scored 73 in 97 balls with seven fours and two sixes, while Iyer scored 61 in 77 balls with seven fours. Axar Patel's 44 and Harshit Rana's quickfire 24* off 18 were key lower-order contributions that helped India reach 264/9 in 50 overs.
Rohit Sharma, at one time, struggled scoring only eight runs in his first 22 balls, as India rebuild after losing Kohli and Gill. However, once he found an ally in Iyer, Rohit opened up and smacked a couple of sixes as well.
During his knock of 73 runs, he went past legendary Sourav Ganguly to become India’s third-highest run-scorer in ODIs. Rohit now has 11249 runs in 275 ODIs, leaving behind Ganguly, who made 11221 runs in 308 ODIs from 1992-2007.
The only players ahead of him are Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs in 463 matches) and Virat Kohli (14,181 runs in 304 matches). Rohit Sharma also became the first Indian to score 1000-plus runs in ODIs in Australia and fifth overall.
The Indian cricket fraternity praised Rohit Sharma for his brilliant knock on social media.
