Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon on Wednesday (January 27) thanked Team India for their sportsmanship during the recently held Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the kind gesture shown by the visitors when they offered him a signed jersey.

The fourth and final Test of the series at the Gabba was Lyon’s 100th appearance in the longest format. After the game, India’s stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane had presented the veteran spinner with a signed jersey for his remarkable feat.
Lyon, who became only the 13th Australian cricketer to feature in 100 Tests, has 399 wickets to his name at an average of 32.12 with 18 five-wicket hauls.
“After a week at home, I’ve had a chance to reflect on the summer. Playing for Australia and receiving a baggy green has always been my dream. I am extremely humble and grateful to have played one test match for Australia let alone 99 more.
“I have had the opportunity to play and learn from some of the greats of Australian Cricket and have made friendship that will last a lifetime. Walking out onto the field in Brisbane to celebrate 100 matches was an extremely proud moment personally for me.
“Even though we didn’t get the job done I will continue to learn, grow and aim to become a better cricketer everyday.
“A massive congratulations to Ajinkya Rahane and Team India on the series win! Thank you also for your sportsmanship and the incredibly kind gesture of a signed Team India shirt. It will be a great addition to the man cave. Now time to reset and chase some bigger goals,” Lyon wrote on Instagram.
Team India created history last week as they breached Australia’s Gabba fortress with a three-wicket victory.
By virtue of this win, India clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1 even though regular skipper Virat Kohli returned home on paternity leave after the first Test while a number of key players sustained injuries through the course of the series.
