India had started the series with a loss at Adelaide. They were humiliated after being bowled out on 36 runs, their lowest Test total. But the team fought back with a win at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Not to forget, they played the last three matches without their full-time captain Virat Kohli.

Ajinkya Rahane led Team India for the rest of the series after Kohli returned home on paternity leave. The team suffered several injuries and was forced to test their bench strength who didn't disappoint.
