Steve Smith surpasses Jacques Kallis to become the player with most fifty and centuries in Test-match

Australian sensation, Steve Smith, on Sunday, surpassed former South Africa batsman, Jacques Kallis, to become the player with most instances of scoring a fifty and century in the same Test match.

The former Australian skipper, Steve Smith, has been back to basics of scoring fifties and centuries after a series of low scores in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy.

After notching up his 27th Test ton in the first innings of the ongoing Test-match at Sydney cricket ground, Steve Smith continued from where he left in the first innings and scored his 30th Test fifty during Australia’s second innings in the Sydney Test.

Steve Smith was set to score the second hundred of the Test-match before veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, for the third time in the series, halted Smith’s innings on 81.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne carried on batting on Day 4 with their overnight scores of 29 and 47 respectively. Labuchagne got out after scoring the second fifty of the Test-match, however, Steve Smith carried on and reached another half-century.

Smith achieved this tremendous feat for the 10th time, overtaking Jacques Kallis's previous record of doing the same 9 times in Test cricket.

They are followed by England's Sir Alastair Cook in 8 times, while India's Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, Australia's Ricky Ponting and Allan Border, and Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara are at the fourth place with achieving this feat 7 times.

During his tally of 81 in the second innings, Steve Smith also went past David Boon to move to the ninth spot in the leading run-scorers list for Australia in Test matches.

Steve Smith has amassed 7,449 runs in Test-matches at an average nearing 62. His tally of 7,449 runs includes 27 Test tons and 30 half-centuries.
