Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was hit near the left elbow by a short delivery from Pat Cummins in their first innings on Saturday (January 9).

The left-hander came in to bat at No. 6 for Team India with the score 142/4. He started in his usual style going for the shots on the slightest of opportunities. However, he did keep the cross-batted shots out of his game for most of his innings due to the unevenness of the pitch on offer at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Australians kept banging the ball in short to the Indian batsmen and did bring the downfall of Rishabh Pant, but not by getting out. In the 85th over of the innings, Cummins bowled a short ball that didn't rise enough. Pant went for the pull shot but the ball came in late and hit his left elbow as he was early into the shot.

The youngster received immediate help from the physio as he looked in tremendous pain after getting hit. It was also evident with the way he batted after that ball and he got out soon in the 88th over of the innings.

BCCI has now given an update that Pant has been taken to the hospital for scans:

Pant scored 36 runs off 67 balls and got out with India 195/5. Eventually, India were bowled out for 244. He did not come out to keep wickets in the second innings and was replaced by Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps.
