Smith slammed his 27th Test ton to take Australia to a strong position.

Steve Smith | GettyAustralia had another dominant display against India with the bat in the ongoing Sydney Test as they piled up 338 in the first innings on Day 2.

Resuming their innings on 166/2, the hosts suffered a middle-order collapse but the duo of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith did enough to take their team to a strong position.

Labuschagne, who was unbeaten on 67 at stumps on Day 1, scored 91 before being dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja while Smith, who was not out on 31 overnight, notched up his 27th Test century.

Despite the wickets tumbling from one end, Smith held the other end firmly. He was the last man to be dismissed in Australia’s innings as he got run out for 131.

Jadeja was the stand-out bowler for India, claiming 4 for 62 in his 18 overs. Jasprit Bumrah (2-66) and Navdeep Saini (2-65) also chipped in with two wickets each.

For his stunning display with the bat, Steve Smith garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
