India's batsman Rohit Sharma has started training on December 31 ahead of the third Test at Sydney which starts on January 7. He joined the team after completing a 14-day mandatory quarantine period.

Cricket journalist Boria Majumdar reported that only Rohit came out for training as his teammates took a two-day off after the win in the second Test. India defeated Australia by 8 wickets at MCG after being crushed in the first Test.

"It's only Rohit Sharma, three throw down guys, and the batting coach. The rest of the boys are on holiday for 2 days but Rohit Sharma out there training," Majumdar said on Sports Today.

Sydney is confirmed as the venue for the third Test despite the rise in COVID-19 cases. Melbourne was the back-up venue for the penultimate Test match of the series. Rohit flew to Australia after passing the fitness test at NCA. He was injured during the Indian Premier League 2020 which forced him to miss the first two Tests.

BCCI shared a couple of pictures of Rohit from the training session on Instagram. "The Hitman is here and has just got the engine started! ????????," they wrote.
